Wrinkle/Crinkle paint finish.

I know I can get the paint and the colours from Frost. So not an issue on locating it.
Unless some one knows a better place.

But I was ask today is there a DIY method of achieving the same results, if so how?

I want to restore a few bits of kit, namely my new drill sharpener.
I intend to sell it on through MIS, another tool charity or through here.



During a MIS sort out we found a few other items, with the finish.
Hence why I was asked if I could do one of my education lessons.

Any decent input will be gladly received.

I have used the Halfords gear in a rattle can and made a pigs ear of a rocker cover, stripped it off and had a second attempt and it seemed very critical of the amount of paint on the surface as to the amount of crinkle. Second attempt was acceptable , needs very even cover to get even crinkle.

Has to be Rattle cans. It will make H&S easier at MIS.

Can't really help as I haven't used any of the rattle cans but MaxMeyer do an additive which is basically plastic micro spheres which is mixed with the paint. Two grades I believe, medium and coarse.
When the paint dryes and the film thickness reduces (wet film thickness to dry film thickness) the paint sticks up where the spheres are to give the finish.
Might be worth experimenting but only if you have nothing better to do than watch paint dry.

I'd just buy something off the shelf.

Iv'e used this stuff, instructions including baking on need following closely. VHT is pretty ok stuff.
Around 7 quid a can on ebay

Vht is very good if done properly. Gives a very good texture we use it for rocker covers and finish is great with good durability

I repainted my Midget dash with spray can wrinkle finish. It came out spot on, exactly like the original. Can't remember where I got it. Probably one of the MG spares specialists.

The nice gritty hand cleaners are the worst.

Think they are changing them to non plastic.
A bit of sand will do the same job, the problem for the manufactures is stopping it settling out over time. The spheres are about the same weight as the cleaner.

My mate used to flog PJ1 wrinkle, I can't remember if I ever used it, but he used to repaint things
like gsx cam covers and they looked like new; But it's probably not the cheapest option.

I would go for powder coat.

As a trail, I am getting the money holder at MIS to order some from Frost.

We have the relevant H&S in MIS set up.
Almost anyone can use a rattle can(I hope)

The collective at MIS will not understand the more complicated parts.

When we get the paint I will get images up.
