I have some similar to the agricultural style, they live in my big box and only come out when needed. Usually a seized pump union that needs persuading and no room for stilsons

If ur interested, there's a whole load of these wrenches available in France....
We go to ''Brocante's'' or car boots and see loads....
I managed to buy some genuine American Cresent Wrenches (adjustable) for peanuts....
They were in a box of Chinese rubbish tools....

Any suggestions on what the Elgin is used for?

Is that a pipe cutter of some sort? With the bottom jaw being a blade perhaps?

That's a great poster, I might try and print a big one off for the shed wall.

The Elgin adjustable alligator wrench was first produced in the late 1800 and I believe the company sold out to another company (if I recall correctly) before the 1900. Alligator wrenches were popular for a all in one wrench that could be carried easily. Most do not work all that well, many were cheap although a lot of the major tool makers made them at one time. Most you find are pretty worn out or abused long ago so they work even less well than when they were new.
