Would you use this seal?

Looks like a truck hub seal, the sort where the inner rotates/slides inside the outer. I wouldn’t reuse it even if it wasn’t damaged. Don’t think you would get one from a bearing shop, good chance of getting one from a truck factors if you could be bothered to trawl through the catalogue.

Thanks Bob. Just to clarify, this is a brand new seal - thats how it came from the shop. I wouldnt reuse an old one either. I havent had time to take it back yet but will do and get it swapped.

I've always called them a unitised seal.

First chance i had to go back to the dealers today. They swapped it with no questions and agreed it wasnt right.

One of the mechanics came and took a look and said he wouldnt use it either.

Interestingly, of the two on the shelf, one of them had the same defect. The other looked markedly better quality - the mechanic remarked that it looked like it was made by a different company - almost double the rubber within the inside of the 'U' of the seal and much more uniformly stuck.

I have had the same problem with JCB seals in the past.

Try some gasket seal just squeezed in the rubber.
