I don’t think many forecourt staff know the rules, I have filled a 1000ltr stillage in the back of a Transit with diesel at the truck pump before now, also fill four 20ltr Jerry cans with petrol at time to make 2t and no one bats an eyelid.

Over thinking on this forum, never! If you go to Halfords etc probably dont have one in Kirkwell, and buy a petrol can for the boot of the car. Will it not be green plastic, probably thinner than the blue one pictured.

Probably thinner and green but plastic isn’t plastic. It’s a catch all. Put petrol in a milk carton and see what happens!

That was my point really, if those blue things aren’t plastic proof then it’ll eat them. There is a symbol for petrol proof plastic I think? Not 100% sure about that.

None of them do. Which is why I’ve had arguments with them about it.

Rules is rules and that’s fine by me. People who don’t know but make it up as they go along isn’t

If some don't, and you get away with it, then good for you.

I have a relative who more or less does this. I am the one with the cream carpet. Its only the lounge where I ask for care. I know who I think is wrong...

It’s when they don’t know the rules that pertain to their job and make it up as they go along is what annoys me.

Petrol - limited quantities and containers
Diesel - fill your boots.

Kiosk bods are too quick to jump on the tannoy of doom. Even when their own signs refer to petrol and the petroleum regs

I know some are a bit hard of understanding but you’d think they could grasp that bit!

I usually just go in and check with them first...never had any issues with regular cans but I think it's polite to check before doing it.

I know someone who ran a commercial boat with twin 115hp Yamaha outboards. They used to fill the boat up using multiple 25l cans like the one pictured. Somehow when they were fueling the boat up alongside the quay using the blue 25l cans of petrol they managed to pickup two 25l cans of neat Sodium Hypochloride bleach that was being used to bleach seaweed off the quay steps, which was supplied from the manufacturer in the same type 25l blue cans.
I still don’t know how someone can empty two 25l cans of very strong bleach into a fuel tank without realising, but they did, and both engines stopped dead shortly after. By the next morning both engines were a total write off as entire fuel system / injectors / vapour separators / inlet manifolds and pistons were destroyed overnight.

I don't know about commercial boats, but I sure have seen enough large cruisers refilling where the crew was at least three sheets to the wind on gin. Would explain not noticing the different smell!
