Worn Vauxhall door hinges

Helping a friend of mine, he has a Vauxhall Combo van (based on a Corsa). The drivers door drops when opened, caused by worn door hinges. The hinges are integral to the door and A pillar, so there is no adjustment. Door hinge pins have been replaced but no better as the wear is in the hinge itself on the drivers door. Does anyone have any suggestions on a fix?

I did them for a pal. Ream the holes to the next size up and turn some pins on a lathe.
If you don’t have a lathe there are plenty on here who would make a couple of pins for you. I would but I’m in Mexico at the moment.

Jack the bottom of the door up to bend the hinges until the door sits right.

^That, either by jacking the car up and putting block under the door, or the simpler and quicker technique of levering the door upwards with a length of 100mm x 50mm timber.

Do it when no-one's looking and you'll be hailed as a genius.

When we had a Peugeot 205 donkeys years ago, you could buy new body hinge pieces to weld in instead of the originals

I might have simply picked the far end of the door up and heaved, with it close to shut, to adjust the welded hinges on a Renault a long time ago.

You can get adjustment tools for them too - but a slim pair of stilsons works too.

On an even older Renault, to stop the door dropping when it opened, a suitable length of timber wedge behind the hinge in the door, and jammed under the lock at the other end of the door allowed what was left of the door to remain door enough shaped to reliably open and close . . . did mean the window didn't drop as far though . . .

Did you get sorted with timber leverage? I just got my old combo back from mot & exact same issue. Used to do bodywork with wood blocks & hammer in the 90s, but wary of this method now as body skins are much thinner

put the wood on the frame of the door rather than the door skin

20 plus years ago, my job used to take me in quite a few car plants around the world - while waiting for permits, parts, people etc would often go for a wander . .. very rarely got challenged as to why I was in the wrong area - but you would see cars returned to parts of the line for rectification . . . involving hammers, blocks of wood, levers

It's probably the same at all car plants, I've been to a few and seen a lever with a pivot in the middle inserted diagonally into a tailgate aperture to "rack" the bodyshell so the tailgate closes properly and hammer stales inserted next to the hinges on a tailgate while slamming the tailgate to tweak it so it latches correctly.
