A few years back I needed a cheap vice for a vice stand I have as it was getting sacrilege to be welding and grinding on a Swindons vice so I found a cheap 6" vice on FB i think £20
mounted on this old bench pillar drill base with wheels on the front edge its quite handy

It never was smooth and the jaws were a really wierd design possibly made of chocolate as it was virtually new when i got it but never clamped anything very well

So it stripped it down and this it the quality of what I found
not a good start a bit off center

a trend that continues

plus sides not even the same thickness

moving jaw not machined very well

or the base...

worse inside some quality casting and god knows how they machined it inside but it must have been a dark room


Im going to fettle it a bit and try to get it to run smooth if I can as for some reason it never did ... but it will just get abused Id rather it died that something i actually cared about hitting or grinding into
