Workshop woes

I "got on my bike" and moved to rural France. The chance to have a big workshop right near to a affordable house 3 phase power for no extra cost and no interfering neighbors was what brought me here the first place.
Its like living in the countryside of the uk only without loads of yuppies in rangerovers and the horsey set everywhere.

Ain't those the truth. Only thing worse than a standard partnership is working with relatives.

With so much talk about supporting small businesses there seems to be eff all done about helping with a place to work from. Unless you are a high tech IT startup there is precious little chance of finding anything.

Or a supposed partner in a family run business.
Been there done it, have to very very trusting of any partner.

I think grants are still available and vary from area to area wildly. Over 2 yrs ago think Shrops £150 useless whereas West Mids was £1k.
The way I worked it was saving each day two lots of travel of around 20 mins each way better put on the actual work that's well over 3hrs per week wasted. Then at liberty of working two whole days a week just to pay extra overheads.

My container is 17 miles away so cost of petrol to go there is a real issue. I have an old caravan on the site I sometimes stay over to cut down on fuel cost.

We currently receive housing benefit and evey Pound I make is taken off the benefit. Fair enough but since the cost of running a car to get to work cannot be offset against taxes then I would be better of not working as I wouldn't need a car. I'm struggling to pay the site rent this month so if the slump continues I may have to give up anyway. I'd rather be working than twiddling my thumbs though.
