Workshop Tool Drawers

I'm going to invest in a wheeled Tool Drawer for the workshop - fed up of the clutter and could do with everything in one place. I've had a few bits from SGS over the years and has always been decent quality so I was looking at these: https://www.sgs-engineering.com/professional-5-drawer-roll-away-tool-cabinet

I found a few older threads but any more up to date recommendations before I click order?

Probably OK for light use. If you plan anything remotely heavy in the drawers look elsewhere.

I suggest a good used Bluepoint tool trolley would be much better and heavy duty. Should be lots of options on ebay and FB etc worth a look.

A lot of the cheaper roll cabs are ok if they are not trundled about too much, I have a well loaded £500 stainless box that stays in one place and that is over fifteen years old, no problems so far with the drawers/ runners.

You need to ignore tool/brand snobbery, on occasion. Any suggestions will likely have you needing to remortgage. These feckers on here are shocking for tempting folk with unnecessary purchases.

Nobody's asked how much weight you'll be expecting them to hold. Unless you're going to ram the drawers with heavy tools, that cabinet will likely be fine. If not, at £220, you're not out a vast amount, & you'll have that cabinet as a second if you decide to get something a bit beefier.

Try it & see would be my advice.

I've got a couple of SGS tool cabinets. As above, they're not amazing and are only light duty, but sitting in the corner of the garage full of tools they're fine.

As long as your not expecting Snap On quality for B&Q prices, not planning on moving it around all the time, and not putting anvils in the drawers, then they're ok.

The old snap on 26" roll cabs are great value as everyone wants the wider stuff
I am a Beach man my self but I must admit whilst I love beach boxes the older Snap on are some of the best made around.

I don't need SnapOn quality but the old Stanley boxes / drawers have lasted me 20 odd years so I would like something with some longevity.

No2 son has Costco toolboxes.

I was impressed with the perceived quality for the price - steel thickness, drawer runners and the drawers latched closed without having to lock the whole cabinet. Essential if you want to wheel them about and don't want them to fall over as all the drawers open because you forgot to lock it!

Not had a problem with them myself. I had a few problems with their couriers of choice, but SGS dealt with the problem swiftly, replied to all my e mails etc quickly and we're fine to deal with in my instance and I'd buy from them again (and have done).

The weight capacity limit can be a problem at times with cheap boxes being moved a lot.

Another option could be this from Costco, but it's probably plus vat.....

You say that '170kg total load limit' like it's not alot? Or am I mis reading your post?

If youre just putting tool in each drawer thats over over 20kg per drawer which is IMO quite alot!

Yes if you're filling the drawers with massive heavy stuff then it's not alot but for normal tool storage thats plenty.
