Customer keeps getting grassed up to SEPA by some cranky old biddy opposite his yard.
Luckily his girlfriend works there so she gives him the heads up to run it on Kero again till the old bat pipes down.
His case isn’t helped because it’s one of the big built in workshop ones and got a flue out the roof. When he’s got old oil in it the thing smokes like a beagle.
As with all this eco-ness, you can pay money in the form of a licence to make it go away.

Amazing how quick you get used to it - after couple of months in upstate NY, I realised I was just like my American colleagues, walking to lunch downtown with my jacket undone, no gloves sometimes a hat, in -20C. I wouldn't like to be working on metal at those temps though!Watching a programme today about an airport in Alaska, one chap was changing an engine on a DC3 outside, he commented "it's a nice day today, only -10°C I don't even need to wear gloves"
One of those same colleagues mentioned the coldest he'd ever felt was visiting his new wife's grandparents in Ireland - hovering around freezing, but damp.
I didn't get used to -30 C in Finland though - PJs under work uniform, fleece and flying jacket - 30-45 mins outside, walking, was my limit.

Having seen -40F with frost on the car windows so thick can carve 3D figures in it, and starting a V8 on just one cylinder, then two, taking 20 minutes and a gallon of fuel to get the tranny goo fluid enough to move, I hear you about the damp in the UK at 0C.
All comes down to what you are wearing.
Bonfire night tee shirt, jumper, light jacket;
Snowmobiling from small town to town bars doing shots of Jim Beam at -30 doing 60mph up and down the the ditches, tee shirt, thermal underwear, wool liner, jumper, very thick snowmobile overalls, big difference, could easily live outside at 0C for days with that rig.

I put my boiler suit on yesterday and kept it on for the rest of the day as it warmed me up nicely. I used to service Karcher cabinet car washes, busiest during the winter. One very cold day I was having to thaw my hands under the inbuilt frost heater so I could grip the spanners, snow falling round me, all for minimum wage. That was the day I decided enough was enough & started looking for another job.
A few months later I was a fitter in a food factory, all inside work, no long hours driving around the country and at well over twice my previous wage!
