Just got this off my scrappy mate, he has a rather large collection of such things at the moment courtesy of a company that installs them.
I need to replace the side & rear bricks, If i cant find out the model i will have to cut them from vermiculite.
Its 15" wide Body 16" high & 12" deep front to back, probably 5Kw
No Id plate on it except for a small plate saying EN 13240 which is a British standard, Anyone know what make & model it is?

Hadleigh Essex SS72PP, It seems the way it works these days, Homeowner has a stove & chimney fitted by company A, a few years down the line Chimney needs a new liner or stove needs some work like new seals or fire bricks. It may be be a model for which parts are still currently available.
Company A might say "Obsolete now mate, cant get the bits but i can fit you a new one".
Or Company B will say "Cant touch that mate I didnt fit it & doesnt conform to Hetas regs / Obsolete cant get the bits. You will have to have a new one".
And so they rip the old ones out & fit new at loads of money.
90% of the public dont have a clue on how to service a stove & just pay a man to do it. Its a licence to print money.
So they go for scrap, Some perfectly serviceable, some need a bit of work. Yesterday he had a dozen standing in his unit & more coming end of the week.
He knocks them out cheap but no guarrantee, what you see is what you get.
The Sirius 405 i bought off him would cost approx £1200 new & needs £100 spending on it to put it right.

Thats a bit harsh gaz. These things are a bit of a focal point and a lot of folk would swap them for something more pleasing on the eye,others for something more compliant/efficient. Scrap man is only recycling.

Our own Charnwood stove was bought secondhand for 50 quid, But try & get a hetas registered outfit to fit a secondhand stove was damn near impossible. Every single company we asked to fit a chimney liner & connect it didnt want to know, In a way i can see their point as the liability falls on he who signs the bit of paper last. In the end we found a couple of guys who were just setting up a new business & they were happy to fit the liner couple it up & sign it off.
The fact remains that stoves have become a disposable item like washing machines but with the added complication that it should be signed of by a Hetas installer. No wonder that it makes commercial sense just to fit new ones.

Not much difference to me as a non trades as sparkys sucking their teeth and telling you the CU needs replaced or plumbers not wanting to touch pipes they haven't installed.

Gas fitters make them look positively benign.

ive seen often complaints on this forum about boilers and gas fitters condeming a boiler and then offering there new boiler when parts are still obtainable

including the comments about british gas refusing to repair boilers when parts exist

my boiler is the same yet ive repaired my own boiler even though ive repaired my own boiler that is 25 years old

wood stoves are the same its bad practice and the price of new stoves have gone up since covid

I would just cut vermiculite board to fit, I replaced the cracked bricks in our Morso stove only for them to crack again, replaced with vermiculite board and haven't had any problems with it, oh and it's cheaper!

Had a search in the workshop, found some vermiculite board but not enough to do the job, But i did find a big tub of refractory cement left over from a barbecue project a couple of years ago. Wasnt goint to last much longer so as i already had it & not wanting to waste or spend more money i have cast some new brick linings.
Mould made from 1" square pine screwed onto a bit of fibreglass faced ply. Should have gone off before new stuff would have arrived so im ahead!

Weirdly I’ve just been given the exact same stove, it too needs new fire bricks!

Fitted the chimbley today, all garmed up with some filthy black gunge in a tube, good stuff, expends & sets hard when its heated. Fired it up for half an hour with a small fire & all works as it should, another break in fire tomorrow then i can see what its capable of. Vent hole drilled in wall behind chimney & Co detector fitted by my bench. Looking forward to being warm over the winter!
