Workshop re-work n re-roof

Electrics and flammable liquids are one thing but having tools hanging over your worksurface is asking for the inevitable,even if your head is not directly under them...they can still fly with one knock and end up in your arm or parts of the body.

Sorry but that is a danger zone with an accident waiting to happen,I have never seen a workshop like that,you only have too look at some yank workshops and see all tools are on the walls at chest height,its just as easy to turn round and grab a tool from the wall.

Saftey first in the workshop.

Condensation is when warm air meets a cold surface, bathroom window being a prime example. Leaving the window open while you shower will prevent it and all modern homes have an electric fan in the bathroom that operates when you switch the lights on, when the light is switched off the fan continues for a set period right?
Welding needs ventilation for safety reasons, I am in the process of designing a system to achieve this and also work out of hours as cold steel on the rack also attracts moisture to form. I am also running constant passive vents (which I suppose might relate to the big brother of trickle vents on modern new build windows). At this time of year its a non issue and as I am 4k plus down though so its got to wait

Your looking at it wrong my head would have to be hanging over the work bench while I was lifting that big hunk of box section into an area I should never be when moving it about at random. There are no electrics on my walls other than the meter (as they could actually pose real danger in this shop) I aint about to put hand tools all over my walls as I need them at my small workbench and vice were I use them otherwise they can be in a box some place. I make profit and win tenders by saving minutes, getting it out on time at a high standard of finish and rummaging for stuff or using a less than ideal tool (because i cant waste time looking for another) just aint going to happen.

There is one place (just one) I am currently fitting out on the wall and its were the drill press and bench grinder are placed. Drill racks so I can find the right size quickly and in spare moments I can touch a few up on the grinder. This is not a walkway but a closed area so I cant catch myself on those nasty sharp drills.

You really can take this too far. For example take kitchens cupboards on walls over worktops, how many of us have been looking for something and left a door open then tried to spit their head open on it? How many have sharp knives not stored in a block? How do you keep the inside of the knife block hygienic if you have one? Is your hot water tap got a temperature limit on it? Does this not mean your washing up water is not hot enough? Idiots are not allowed to cook in my kitchen or work in my shop though :laughing:

Don't know about others but i have closed kitchen cupboard doors and drawers when looking for something,common sense you're going to close em after not finding what your looking for in them ones.

And as for hanging tools above you on the ceiling besides it being dangerous you will also struggle slightly to put them back on their respective nails/screws or hangers ie fannying about.

What make is the ball pein in this photo, (2nd from the right with the red handle, next to the Thor mallet)?

The styling on that head seems slightly more square than usual.

Sorry if I've got your back up but I'm just passing judgement on a situation that can and will cause an accident at some point in time,whether you accept that judement is soley down to you.

I don't have a workshop,some of us can't afford one,and even if I did I still wouldn't put tools hanging above the head.

I'll shut it now,ok. :whistle:

Its set into and through the wall and there is more steel built into that wall under it acting as a big pad. I can see how you might think that because its so over engineered on those brackets but you see we get massive wind gusts here and its there to negate lift on the roof as the doors are often open. The whole roof would pass Bregs without steel at all as it happens. 8x3" C23 graded full width unbroken.
I did it because I can and I put it all up single handed without a machine, no I am not kidding either

how big is the workshop mate???

Think so out of Rolls a while back. The hammer Don't know off my head its a good un though carbon shaft n all that
