Led battens seem to be more directional than fluorescents ie the light spread is not as good.
So if you have a low ceiling you might have to have the led battens mounted closer together to cover all your floor space, so you will need extra lights.

I replaced the tubes over the bench, twin 5 foots. I find working on some things, painting as an example, if it’s not in direct light I have to use a head torch because of the shadow. It seems to be more directional if that’s possible. It’s light Jim, but not as we know it!

I swapped out old flourescent tubes for 600mm square panels in 2019.
Bought 6. Only fitted 4.
Light was wonderful. Much better than the tubes.

Since then I have had to replace 2 of the panels in the last 2 years and 3 drivers.

Might be the harsh environment, lots of grinding dust, although the panels look sealed.
Might be just cheap tat, I bought them from Ebay after all.

They've all been perfect, I had other LEDs in before these (cheap Chinese) but they steadily started to die after a couple of years

it's damp here, steam cleaning at least twice a day, a bunch are in a fridge, more are in freezers at -40'C

all good so far, 3 or 4 years now I think... might be a bit longer



before I bought them all I bought a load of different ones to test, spend a good £500 on all different types/makes because I didn't want to install loads then find out too late they're no good.... (like the previous ones)

and these came out on top... honestly shocked a sub £10 light was batter than the £50 ones

And for another input, I've got JCC Skypack in my garage and workshop. I'd rate them highly, excellent light colour and dead easy to fit. 4 off 5ft 54W battens in the (18'x12') garage and 3 off 6ft 82W twin battens in the (15'6"x12') workshop.

For the fluorescent - LED comparison, I had 3off twin tube 6ft fluorescents in the workshop before so went with the highest power LED alternative but they were so bright, I ended up strapping the diffusers from the fluorescent fittings back over the top.

4000K is the sweet spot for colour temperature imho. 6000K is simply not a nice colour, way too harsh and 2700-3000K can be a bit green depending on the quality of LEDs.

I really like 6500k colour temp to work under, makes everything much clearer

I found the panels to be a much nice light than batten LEDs , they seem to have a better spread of light and not as shadowy and I hate LEDs

trouble is with pannel lights there flush on the ceiling and you dont get any reflected light of the ceiling when there painted white where as battens with the leds lower give off a fair bit of light from the sides. ive proved the point as i use a lux meter mainly in schools and offices to stop teachers and office staff whinging its not bright enough after fittings have been changed . it soon shuts them up when you give them the light levels and show them the book on what it should be
