Workshop Heating (Water)

For me it would depend on the useage of the workshop. No point having underfloor if popping in there for an hour or two every now and again. I use heat lamps in my garage. Instant heat and I can have the door open if I want/need to.

The good thing about log burners is they keep you warm twice....

You can say that again . I gave my workshop wood burner away as I was spending more time tending the B****y thing than being constructive.

I have one of them - it's panable, so I can point it where needed. as you say, instant heat.

Eb D5w and 3 rads , runs on kerosene so it will run automatically , so not just 30mins

rocket stove heater for me and its too warm in my little shed

but i get loads of free wood but i burn very little so need very little storage

though ive built a rocket stove boiler thats in testing at moment

Hi,
is anyone heating their workshop with gas or oil.?
When casting my floating floor I put in a coil of underfloor heating piping.
The idea was to use an immersion type heater in a tank to heat the water, but it really gobbelled the juice.
I am looking at a gas or oil heater for a boat/caravan, one of these tankless units.
Any suggestions .?
The idea is just to keep the slab luke warm, frost protection really.

Some little oil filled rads have a frost protection setting, one of those in there will only come on when needed. Cheap to buy.

The advantages of ufh are many, as has been mentioned, lower water temps increase boiler efficiency but also it should allow you to use less fuel than rads as you can get away with a lower overall temperature without feeling chilly. Due to the big slab at a cooler temp producing less draughtyness and gentle background radiant heat.

That's all well and good but in a workshop situation, unless you spend all day in there, the disadvantages are noticeable; longer warm up time or having to heat it when you don't need to just so it's comfortable when you do go in.
