workshop heater...btu's?

hi y'all...

so anyone a heating engineer? i need to heat my new workshop, so i dont freeze next winter and that my potential employees don't sue me..!!

its 13m long 12m wide, 3m to eaves, and 5.6 to the top- insulated best i can- was thinking of spray foam on roof and walls-(corrugated asbestos)

is there some funky calculation to work out how many btu's/ kw i need? i bet there is- google hints at it but gets complicated- i'm only a simpleton!

Hmmm, asbestos sheet. whatever you do you mustn't disturb it, or you'll have to get it removed by a specialist firm, same for if it gets damaged.

If you're running your own business, then it'd be worth getting the gen up on basic health and safety requirements, it'll keep you out of hot water later.

its all fairly stable and not that old-

but am going to spray the underside with expanding foam insulation....

I put your dimensions into my rad calculator, I used 5.6m as the height as wasn't sure what type of pitch you had on the roof. For a room with an average heat loss it comes back at 34.9Kw for a room with high heat loss which I would assume your workshop will be it is 43.68Kw. Hope this is of some use.

Calculating heat loss from a building is easy enough , but what makes a real difference is the insulation , have you looked at the expanded foam kingspan type insulation or similar ? Its easy to fit and makes a huge difference to heat retention .

that means the industrial gas heaters off of ebay might just work....!

in terms of insulation- i think i'll spray foam the roof- both condensation and drafts reduction.

kingspan and celotex are great- used to use them loads when i worked for an extensions/ loft conversion company but the mutts nuts are the super foils- i think a 12mm foil was equivalent of 200mm kingspan - if memory serves.....but £££

walls are currently corregated asbestos- so will either swap that for something nicer, and insulate and clad-

George what is the btu requirements for that space im intersted as i worked it out to be about 260 000 btu
