Working over seas

Worley parsons were recruiting recently.

Having travelled a fair bit my self, and recruited ex pats, not welders though. The big bucks are not so easy these days, in the middle east they recruit far eastern or south african lavbour as they are cheaper than you...your trying to dip your toe into a global work force. Most long terms overseas jobs are aimed at local labour, most big project have nationalsation programes.

That said it is still possible. But becareful, there are lots out there trying to fleece overseas job seekers. It shouldnt cost you any money to apply, register for any real jobs. If you get a toe in ....if its too good to be true it usually is!

Paying for your own codes isnt the way, youd be better off as said, get work with some place who sends guys overseas, and build both your work experience plus your life experience.

Welders offshore are not common these days, except in hook ups and shutdowns, drilling usually have them, more than production platforms. Again get work with a company that does such things.

I've also travelled the world.....mech engineer ......
if u can support yourself for a few months money wise...it'd be easier ....
look at volunteering sites...ur skills will be wanted....
u can work for nowt for a while then look around.....
thats what I've done on occasion.....
Have found once people like u and ur work u'll be passed around getting more work/money...
often single females need work done and there r other benefits.....hahaha....
but remember ur on the black....be ready to run if u have too......
travel light...hahaha......
it's the beginning thats hard, so treat it like a working holiday for starters....
do u have another skill's ? mechanical, woodworking etc.....
I'm a little out of it now (an ol git) but a lot of volunteer set ups will sort ur papers out...as ur temp working.....once there look about....
have heard that Ozz and NZ can be a bear to get started in.....
A friend, a v/skilled carpenter took a v/posting in NZ...
they liked his work, now been there legally for 5 years....
Don't rule it out, but Israel is another good place to start....
R u a member of any societies, like toy trains etc etc can u scuba dive ?
anything extra that will help .....
Best Advice from me.......go on holiday to where ever u fancy and then hawk urself around....
thats what I did first, ended up with 5 years in S. California....
Show em what ya can do.....most people aren't interested in ur bit's of paper, they need to like u and what ya can do.....I've helped a good few that way when I was abroad.....u just gotta find somebody to talk to...foot in the door an all that.....
even if it's for free board and lodging.....
S. California, great weather, blondes of all ages, Harley's and pick-up's....mmmmm.....hahaha....
hard to do now, I was 22, now 70....
all that traveling was the best years of my single life.....

out of interest, before I met my wife and won't change anything now....
I had decided to buy a blue water Yacht and sail around the world...
working on boats as I went to pay for everything...guessed at a 10 year circumnavigation....
but had enough money to buy a prof quality boat....
the idea was NEVER EVER to come back to Blighty.....
so wish u luck, it can be done....

Remember if u end upon in the 3rd world or S. Europe u'll only get good work/money from ex Pats or other traveler's as they don't want locals on their property ....

I'm sorry I have no contacts anymore, mostly retired or dead......

As Frank says but there is such a huge back packing scene all over Oz now it's so easy to go on a working holiday visa, get cheap digs, meet loads of folk.and have the time of your life. Always remember home is only a days flying from anywhere now so it's no big deal. I worked all over Oz in the mining industry mainly and Oz is an easy country to start off in and see if you like it.

in the old days we travelled with an Omega watch....
then u could pawn or sell it for a flight home....
thats not safe anymore tho.......

Thats good advice, My first rolex was for the same reason, and a credit card, that would cover a flight home from anywhere in an emergency just in case the green grass turns brown and sticky. Only used the card once for that, but after 10 days in Eygpt getting messed about, enough was enough, a ticket was bought.

Can be done. I left UK for a break, helping a friend run a farm in Iberia. After that I found there was enough work to keep going, often more than enough. On the welding side I did a lot of gates and grill work, plus anything that turned up, like a few bridges and other structures. Always self employed and legal. Bought a house that ran off a genny (power was only in the towns, back then) next thing I know, I get people at the door needing their gensets fixing, which led to managing a big complex for a German shipping Co.
Granted, it was back a bit, but still can be done from what I see. Key was being adaptable, because usually the local outfits are not. Plus, keep to your quotes and do things on time. The thing that everybody complained about (and still do, here) is bad timekeeping and delays. I quoted for a stainless railing a few weeks ago. Went quiet, until today, when the client came back and apologised, explained that the builders hadn't finished the terrace yet, but could I start anyway, in the hope that it would be ready when I was.
It is 23.30 here, so off to bed. Seeing some people about a boat cradle tomorrow...
