Working for a friend

I had to stop "friends" thinking it was ok to rock up any time of the day or night to repair bangers needing attention. Invariably involved loads of my time and POS laid about all over the place waiting for bits. The nail in the coffin was catching a mate of mine using one of my snap on ratchets as a hammer.

I fix trucks for a living, when people ask me what I do I tell them, then they always ask do I fix cars? to which I always answer no.

but a couple said "I joined the club to shoot, not labour" and walked out.

I would not be inviting this type of person back to rejoin in the new enrolment. The operative word is "Club". I wrote about it on here some years ago but worth repeating:

When I was moving the old club to the new club and building the new premises people kept on turning up offering their services (I know, I was as surprised as anyone). Anyhow one day this elderly chap rolled up and asked if he could help. Looking at him (life lesson coming up guys) I thought, maybe make the lads some tea, anyhow he spotted the welder and said "I'm a welder, I can do Welding" so with nothing to lose I gave him a simple bracket to weld on, "Do you have a shield" at the time I had a decent mask, so he promptly held it like a welding shield Clucking Bell, could this guy weld, far better than me so he was promptly hired! :-) Turns out he had been welding since "Argon Arc" days some sixty odd years previously and his boast was: None of my welds failed X-ray, He was welding for BNF.
