I tired those didn't find them very good.
I use these - one is always enough - very clean and no nasty smell - just light the little plastic wrapper it comes in.
Not cheap but no waste unlike the type you have to break off.

I used to use something else when I was a teenager - will avoid key words here but little purple crystals mixed with the stuff below.

Wrapped in foil not too wet it goes off by itself - very pretty!

I know this won't be for everyone, if you love the ritual and process of processing kindling, scrunching newspaper and building a fire from nothing, I totally get the satisfaction involved! However, I'm lazy. And I find it a lot easier to only process and bring in one type of log and not faff about with newspapers anymore. The logs I used above are smaller than they need to be, works absolutely fine with larger chunks too.

Later in the season, we do keep it in a bit, that's obviously the easiest way of all! But it is a bit harder on the glass, unless you can get the knack just right. That may be just me/my stove combination though.

See you have a clear view, so have we, I use the same method except I don't use meths or place the logs crossways.
I use split logs lay them the other way so the cut sides make a tunnel pointing towards the front, on top of a screwed up newspaper page. Leave the door open a crack, and the air rushes in between the logs and it's roaring in minutes. Then place more logs crossways on top.

Also never clear the grate out keeps the heat in better overnight.

Currently saving on firelighters by using bog roll and kitchen roll inners .

I used firelighters instead of bog roll when the shortage was on.
