What size you looking?

TBH I don't really know yet - I've done very little working out or even thinking about it so far as there's 101 other jobs that need doing before I will get onto it. I'd want to be able to block up lengths with a maximum of say 10/12" diameter and that would be getting a bit on the heavy side lifting in and sliding over etc I guess that means a blade around 2' diameter. It's one of them things that I was just hoping might stumble across at a scrappy or find at a carboot or something like that one day.

I can think of two of you that need a swinging table building for their saws...

On my monster saw, normally there is no table, but you put the log into a V shaped holder, which pivots right at the bottom of the saw, but holds the log at the right height, then a lever pushes the log into the v and also acts as a handle for the table bit.
You can then swing the log into the saw to cut it to length without having to go near the blade, plus Ive found cutting logs without a table you sooner or later end up with a poorly hand from a bad kickback. With the swinging table nothing. I do have a flat table top I can bolt on for doing plank and fine woodwork but Ive discovered since bothering to make it that I never actually use it so it sits going mouldy in a corner of the barn.

Mines powered by a dy35 robin diesel ex of a road roller. We call it Satan

Edit, found a ad on leboncoin for one with a table. On mine the table retracts and covers the blade on the top moving the guard out the way only to let the saw do its stuff. A bit safer, but it still removed a previous owners fingers when it had a 3kw 3phase motor for power. I asked how come the surgeons didnt reattach them after, sadly for him, his opportunist collie was also nearby that day and ate them and by the time they'd come back out...

You must have a lot of land then?

Our last place was on rocky land and my wife used to take in stray cats, which I usually ended up digging holes for. On more than one occasion, I thought I had found a soft patch, only to start digging up a previous burial.

i built this last christmas holiday, it started off on a scrap heap as a worn out saw blade, a broken generator rotating shaft with bearings, and whats left of my horsebox trailer,

took the engine off the generator, 11hp engine which starts first pull, added a double pulley, made a frame out whatever i could find fitted the blade on the rotating shaft, kept undoing the nut when it spun so put a locating peg on the saw blade so it wont over-run, bolted the axle on and a couple pieces ply on top, a reeving knife and an underguard, can be towed behind the landy if needed

was a bit scary on the first couple of goes, the blade cuts very well despite having a few teeth tips missing,i can have the blade nearly past singing, should make a top shield sometime, maybe over xmas

there is a blood brothers cup for scale (apt mug maybe)

Almost identical to a saw bench I made back around 20 years ago. It's tractor pto driven from the idle shaft below with 8" dia Vee pulley to 3" dia pulley on the blade shaft. Blade is 22" dia with TCT. Used it for cutting up pallets and railway sleepers for firewood. Must keep this link and post pic later as I'm surprised how alike our saw benches are. Lol.

Here's mine, not home made but just as lethal looking.
It started life as a flat belt drive 36" saw, I could never keep the tension in the belt so I welded on a PTO stub and now drive it through a PTO shaft from my T20.

You need an over run clutch & shear pin on that PTO.

Get a good quality one, pref a original. I have one on my massey harris pony (pre fergie) that also serves as a shaft diameter adapter so I can use standard pto shafting, and I went through 3 in about two weeks of the ebay ones as they just have plastic innards which break and go sloppy then the shaft goes off centre and the imbalance wrecks things, and the diameter adapters tend to be annodised alloy which dont stand up to the fretting and get chewed up the same way. I ended up using a standard size industrial one and making my own shaft diameter adapter from steel.

Running a flail without one is scarey though as you have to think ahead because of the inertia, I demolished a wall doing that
