Wish I'd thought of that, currently in the process of sanding the de-natured wood on my garage prior to applying Barn Paint at £65/5l. Had 20l of used engine oil too...

A redneck method is buy new ridge and drill 2 holes in the top, fixed by 150mm screws and rubbers washes into ridge tree...bed the ends of each ridge on a bed of mortar for water proofing. saves buying the boxed kits.The 25L of Creosote was iirc £60 - still cheaper than the posh clear stuff they sell in 5L tins to treat worm etc in wood - hence why I went that route.
(I also had a shock when I costed up a dry ridge pack & new Ridge Tiles! 'Kin ell! A 6m dry ridge system (& I'd need 2 as it's 7.5m) was £38 ea, while the 18" ridges with VAT were pretty much £15 each, & I need 17! I went online & found dry ridge mat for less than half that, & have ordered composite [made of 75% Recycled car tyres or something] screw-down Ridges for nearly 1/3 the price of concrete Marley type.... so managed to reduce cost from circa £350 to about £150. Waiting for them to turn up now, & hoping they are good!)
One reasoning that I have to do the other side/half of the roofing future as I know the battens are kaput & the framework needs attention before it gets too far gone.
The dry ridges idea was toymaker it easier to tackle the other side more easily.

Cover it over with some old broken asbestos pieces to prevent fires…

I built a 24 x 14 ft concrete garage 38 years ago. I put an apex roof on it, so it had the gable ends done in shiplap, pine window frames and doors. I did it in a concoction of engine oil, paraffin, creosote etc. I did it again about 15 years ago and its still in really good condition…

That looks great, I wouldn’t have believed the results without the pictures, looks much nicer than the grey Cuprinol I have on my sheds and fence, will definitely try that next time.

I use old engine oil 50/50 with diesel fuel on the garden cabin, and house cladding. Don't have any wooden fences.
Looks great and lasts well. When the timber was new, gave it a coat every year for the first three years, and then every five years or so. House needs doing again, but as we are building an extension, some will need to altered, so leaving it for now.
Yes, its flammable, and not environmentally friendly, but there really is no viable alternative. Creocote is carp, and all the water based stuff is just thin paint, and doesn't last. Luckily we don't live in an area where there are young Herbert's with nothing to do to amuse themselves.
