2000 mile old diesel oil and white spirit, 75% spirit and 25% oil...great protection and a nice colour tone too imho. wifes laundry room, rear gates and a bit of fencing...loads more to do this week and happily costing pennies.

i just used old engine oil on my fences, sprayed on with an old primer gun so job done in no time, works and it,s freeeeeee

On the parents roof I've been amateurishly repairing, I used a drum of old school coal tar creosote on the framework after repairs - but this concoction I assume would do just as well to protect from weather & insects as creosote?

Used old engine oil on farm fencing etc where I used to work, they had loads of it... it's free & also saves having to dispose of it by whatever b/s manner you're 'supposed to' follow

yes insects hate anything oil based...the price of oil based wood protection these days is plain silly, even the basic decking oil. Cuprinol products can empty your wallet faster than the wife at Primark

The 25L of Creosote was iirc £60 - still cheaper than the posh clear stuff they sell in 5L tins to treat worm etc in wood - hence why I went that route.

(I also had a shock when I costed up a dry ridge pack & new Ridge Tiles! 'Kin ell! A 6m dry ridge system (& I'd need 2 as it's 7.5m) was £38 ea, while the 18" ridges with VAT were pretty much £15 each, & I need 17 ! I went online & found dry ridge mat for less than half that, & have ordered composite [made of 75% Recycled car tyres or something] screw-down Ridges for nearly 1/3 the price of concrete Marley type.... so managed to reduce cost from circa £350 to about £150. Waiting for them to turn up now, & hoping they are good!)

I have a 205l drum half full(currently),of used oil,all my fence posts,cladding etc,poles go in there,if too heavy/long the fork lift hoists them in,if I plan a schedule they can soak for a week. Proper recycling without the pomp!

I've still got the oil from my last oil change, sitting around in the sealed collector...

I have tried and failed to find an above-board disposal place, what a ballache. No dumps will take the damn stuff.

If my missus wasn't aware I had it, and wouldn't look at me differently for it, it would have gone down a drain a long time ago, god forgive me...

the local council tip is supposed to take it as they will recycle the stuff anyway

A bit of me was tempted to undercoat the car since it's better than nothing - only have a couple of litres but also only have a small car!

Somewhere near you will be someone who uses waste oil for heating, but doesn't tell anyone.
All you have to do is find them.

i wouldnt get caught dumping the stuff as bad as contamination of the soil in your garden
contamination of the soil is an expensive removal

both are what you call suspect

but if i cant get rid of it one way im just going to burn it within winter dark times
