How about doug fir deck planks? I am about to use them for a river mooring pontoon deck.
If you can find it and stand the cost, Iroko is very good. Sort of poor man's teak, very hard wearing and proof against the elements.

I’d prefer wood and really like the finish of the burnt char as it also protects the wood
99% of the time the bed will be empty as it’s going to be styled like an Australian ute bed but steel 50x25x3mm on all four sides then two extra in the bed front to rear plus some flat strip for strength

Iv seen larch on a house grand designs and it just looked lovely hopefully I can replicate it
the bed will have bicycles and occasional motor cross bikes but very seldomly

Bit of trailer decking and use it as a Landy should be used. Don’t get this fashion of owning a defender and not working the life out of it. They’re uncomfortable, thirsty, sluggish crap, and that’s coming from an enthusiast!
