Wonky band saw ??

If it was me I’d sort out the one you have. I’ve been through the process of fettling a new one and spent probably the same amount of time as you have on yours on a brand new machine. It had several issues including sawing through its own blade cover. Cant recommend any others as I have no experience other than the one band saw I used to have. I did buy a Clarke cold saw a few years ago and that was pretty good but less efficient than a bandsaw for me.

Can you add a spacer on the fixed side of the vice to move it away from the guide?

Oh there is something a miss, the bloody plot here now lol. It will adjust well enough but no points to bolt the vice down.

I am sooooooo about to go shopping.

It has two fixing points for the pivot bolt but non in a place to hold it correctly.

What size is that box section ? I've cut 2"x4" at 45 deg. in mine and never hit that problem. I've just put a length of 2" angle in and it's cleared the drive end guide no problem. The clearance is "only just" bit it's still clear

I haven’t read all this thread so apologies if it has already been mentioned, but there is an excellent guide to setting up these bandsaws written by a guy called John Pitkin:

It deals with setting up to cut square, and how to cure the throwing the blade problem. I have to use it every time I replace the blade on mine. While these things are a pain in the harris they are still a lot better than using a hacksaw.

2inch box section. tried all ways i can think using the mounting hole in the bed. Something is not right here.

It's almost as the base casting and the actual saw head are from different models. There's absolutely no way you can tune that much error out.

Just out of interest, what are the dimensions of the base - mine measures 7" x 26". The distance from the vice jaw pivot bolt to the centre of the head bearing shaft is 10.5".

I’ve just remembered - I drilled a couple of new holes for the rear vice jaw so it can be positioned for cutting 45s. I’ll see if I can get a photo.

edit - slight memory loss! I did actually drill two new holes in the base of the rear jaw, but I also ground off a chunk of the blade guide at 45°. I have a little piece of plate bolted in mine for using when it’s vertical,and obviously have to take it off if I need to cut a 45.

Thanks all for the help and info again. As i do, sod it i bought a new one as got sick of faffing here with this one. to many things not right with it, A risk to some maybe buying a new one as it mite be as bad but if it is it can go back. I ill update when it arrives and get it going

Depending on price and postage (sorry) I might be interested in acquiring the old saw for hacking as a project.
