Wolf 8" bench grinder

Hi, I have an old Wolf TG8C bench grinder. I have replaced the internal wiring because it was in bad condition but now its making a humming noise and a bit of smoke. It starts up ok but it does not sound right when its running.
Would someone be able to tell me how to wire the capacitor? At present I have it in series with the start winding.
