It's an antique original wheel barrow , its only had three new tubs and six replacement frames & a new front wheel .

I've heard of Triggers broom before but I didn't know he also had a wheelbarrow...

For a minute there I thought I might be the only one who knows what Triggers broom actually is...

ive found my pics for my wheelbarrow

it was clean when i brought it home until my brother borrowed it



you can see builders atitudes with them always bent at back of them as they use the back plate as a shoval lift it also pushes the back down and wears away the bolt points till they snap same at the front bolts

as you may notice left with cement uncleaned from it my pet hate

but i got my own back as i told him so

returned how ive found mine often

Indeed. This one I'm playing with is the "Walsall" that sells for £38 in B&Q. How they have the front to call it "heavy duty" is beyond me. Galvanised yes, but very thin metal. I've done heavier farts.

The two I have, are the Walsall Premier Plus Metal Wheelbarrow 120 litre, they are now priced at £64 in B&Q , galvanised steel, so they should last, I've had them over 10 years now, though they do not get worked all day every day, they've had a leisurely life, but are both on their third set of tyres/wheels/tubes, that must be due to the overloaded, high speed, skip filling

I used to work near the Walsall Wheelbarrow Co. and saw lorry loads shipped every day, I was talking to one of their guys and he said the average life expectancy of a barrow on a building site was 3 days

Wasn't there a tale years ago about a worker at a wheelbarrow factory who was wheeling a barrow load of " something" out every night and when the security checked him they could find nothing suspicious . Eventually somebody realised he was nicking wheelbarrows. I always wished it was true.

Heard a similar one about a dockyard worker who had a letter from his boss saying he was allowed to take bits of scrap unwanted wood out for his fire - used to trundle past the mod police security every night, it was only years later they realised he had been nicking the wheelbarrows

Same story is probably recycled everywhere lol

If he'd made the diagonal cut leaving a 2 inch lip at the front end and almost all of the back end base dropping hte rear end on the barrow frame he have had a far better barrow . cutting the gas cyl & putting either plates or spreaders in the cut ends so each half could rotate freely of the other half cylinder would have made it super barrow .

Just had a thought would some four inch wide of the ribbed 18 inch black poly pipe or heavy duty blue plastic water or yellow gas main be good for making two front wheels each one being bolted or coach screwed via predrilled holes on inch thick tongue & grooved wood dishes .. two dishes per wheel .

In my NEEBS industrial security , loss control course (1980 ) one of our tutors , " Dave Trowbridge " told us he was new to the job ( several years prior to teaching us on secondment )
.
He'd just started at an Exide battery production plant , they had a guy who always wore his rain coat as he cycled out the factory gates ..rain , shine , freezing cold or Tarmac melting heat .

towards the end of his first week at the job Dave thought it odd so mentioned it to the security , shift manager who said , " Oh old Tom , he always wears his raincoat he's a funny sod ".

Next day Dave stopped him , saw a bit of a square protrusion under the raincoat .

Tom was invited inside ( Union rep present ) to talk with Dave & after a few minutes said , " OK I give in . I've nicked a battery it's inside my coat & is bloody killing me " .
On taking his raincoat off he was found to have a light weight tubular steel carrier with a brazed in EXPAMET floor the frame had worn smooth of paint & had sweat stained professionally made leather pads & straps to strap it to him , much like a rucksack frame but with carrier at the front . In it was a 100 amp heavy duty truck battery .
Old Tom had been doing it for over 12 years to the shift managers knowledge , as he was dressed like that when the shift manager joined Exide.
Tom got a custodial sentence for his thievery .

Put the 4 inch wide wheel's out board .. similar to my old two wheeler with a galv tub . it could hold 1 & 1'2 times what brickies barrow did and after I'd modified it to have 4 precision sealed wheel bearings on a 12 mm thread bar tensioning to keep the wheels up against the axle tube .....it was a sight easer than 1/3 of a brickies barrow to push & pull .

I was just thinking the same (while sitting in front of Sketchup).

You'll need a front cross spar a few mm below the front lip to help with tipping concrete & rubble etc. to stop it getting ripped open .

If your clever you'll leave the smaller tap/ vent bung in place at the rear lowest point so you can move liquids and drain them out where you want them.

IE . Pressure wash the tub well at least twice drain it & clean the plug & thread well then move it as pressure washer water tank to places where the hosepipe won't reach or use it a a rainwater catcher & mover as well filling from one of the down pipe diverters that you can make a plug for when you have enough water in the tub.
