After WWII my late father-in-law was "loaned" by the RAF until 1947 to Anglo Arabian Oil to run their air fleet (Dakota's and small spotter planes). He was based in Iraq and said they were wonderful people.

My father in law was in Iraq in about 1950 with the RAF based in Habania, he loved it there.

my grandfather was in army and went there a few times, right up until the day he did he said you would never meet nicer people as the people living normal lives in iraq

In my previous company we sold some machinery to Iran, I never went myself but the French engineer who went there to comission it said it was one of the nicest and most friendly places he'd been to.

Ok just back home now. I spent almost two weeks in a place called Shaikan in the Kurdistan area. It's proper in the middle of now where. I had armed guards with me all the time to protect against the ISIS idiots that were about 30 miles away. Apart from this ever present threat I felt very safe out there and could go anywhere with out having to worry or look over my shoulder. As some of you say the people couldn't be more friendly
