Have reduced my hours with the company I've been working for to enable me a few days a week to work self employed ,I've been building up my tools and equiptment for a while now aswell as contacts for work etc

Well over the years I've done decorative metal work, machine components to building race cars and classic car restoration so I plan to tackle just about anything that needs fabricating or welding that comes my way. I've agreed to sub contract for another engineering company too for at least two days a week to start with and still do a few hours for the company I have been working for for the past few years

Yeah that's the plan, I've enough work guaranteed to cover my bills etc whilst I advertise for other work etc to be self employed full time

Good luck, going part time is a good way to ease yourself into it.
I did this, dropped a day a week as a care worker. They would not let me drop another day so I resigned on the spot. That was 5 years ago.
A scary business, but well worth the effort.
One thought, be wary of spending too much on advertising.

the only advertising i do is give me telephone number on a scrap of paper. keep it cheap print your own on the comp

A free method of advertising is to consider who locally could benefit from what you offer, do a local Google search and drop them an introductory email, I sent about 30 out in an hour with the old paste and copy method, got 5 replies wanting my products and one of them is now my biggest buyer.

vistaprint. co. uk used to do cards for free add a few £ and you can get some decent ones that you build yourself from their on line builder .
