cant u find a scrapper in a yard and cut a section of loom out and graft it in
Well if the loom is made from unobtainium or prohibitively expensive its certainly repairable but a new loom section as suggested above would be a better way.
Its a '99 merc so you have to weigh up the cost v long term, is it a quick fix or a car you plan to keep for life? If it were my lovingly restored 90 it would be getting a new loom.. if it were a nail of an E class used as my dog van it would be a repair job.
A repair to that loom using soldered connections and adhesive lined shrink can be as reliable as a new loom if done properly
Can't see you driving that to work tomorrow

It's a nearly worthless car, in theory. But ....<snip>.a damn good car and I'm the sort who prefers to fix and keep what he knows than mess about with another purchase which at best is equally as decent, at worst is a pup. So it's worth a bit in my eyes.
I was going to ask the same. Then I remembered that the wiring diagrams in WIS are almost impossible to follow even for a simple point to point conection, that@Bill Edwards what model of merc is it? and what trim?
The Merc one has tiny little bits of diagram on each page, if you tried to print it out it would form a giant concertina, it is in B&W with legend in German or at least the hookie ebay one I had was.Sounds a bit like the wiring diagrams in the Saab WIS...shows wires going to junction boxes but with no mention of what they do...
Was also wondering in case I can turn something up on ebay

and I am not sure I still have a working PC with WIS on.

Might be worth giving these guys a message, seem to break a lot of mercs...
failing that look for one being broken on ebay, albeit certain "breakers" of a non european ethnic origin often have little more than a tenous grip on english...
stick a plumbers matt on the inside under the wiring in future perhaps?
Know how you feel, certain jobs I loathe...exhausts being one...
Argh...done that myself a few times...cheap repair goes wrong and ends up being a royal pain to sort...worst yet being bricking an ECU
good to hear you are getting there with it and didn't give up and scrap the car, ive got some stuff to do but as you say you soon get cold and worse when crouchingYep, I'm about halfway through it...
It's urgently needed but as it's outside I'm tied to the weather at the same time as a full time job plus some. And it gets darn cold when you're in one place without moving, i.e joining wires.
Just for fun the wiring doubles back on itself so it's melted in one place then doubled back so the same stuff is melted again, so the work has to be done twice.
