Wiring bench mounted electrical sockets

I was thinking it would be handy to have a couple of metal clad sockets bracketed under my bench - I already have sockets above the bench but that means my power tool leads trail across the bench.

What would be the correct way to run a cable to such sockets - although the bench weighs a quarter of a ton or thereabouts and is bolted down it doesn't seem right to wire to it using fixed twin and earth cable. Should I just wire it as an extension lead using blue flex from an existing socket?

if the sockets above are on a ring spur a socket of each as long as the cable is protected against mechanical damage in conduit ect

If your present sockets are metalclad as well, a flexible conduit pack could connect them to the underbench sockets.

Great - thanks for those suggestions - I will spur a single socket (using galv conduit) on the wall under the bench off the existing ring and then use the extension lead approach to run power from that to the accessible sockets underneath the front of the bench - should be a neat job.

I'm not sure I need the flexible conduit as the flex wiring will be pretty much hidden away under the bench - interesting product though.

I did a job once where they wanted sockets on a big bench and screwed the sockets down to too with tapped holes and conduit run on underside. Worked very well but did have to "discuss" with boss over if a separate cpc conductor was really needed (conduit was a bit full and bench had a 25mm earth back to building earth)

its still acceptable to use metal conduit as a cpc but the earth fault loop values will need to be varified as acceptable though

Yep as long as reasonable care to reduce effects of corrosion. I think the 10mm steel bench was the main Cpc
