Wire Quality

I have just run out of mig welding wire and I haven't bought any in a long time. The last wire I bought was Weldability 0.8mm 5kg. There aren't too many places around me that sell welding supplies so I was just wondering if the Impax wire at screwfix is any good or not.

If that wire is no good then what is the best wire to try and have delivered? I tried to search for any threads on this but couldn't find any recently.

Do you have a really good source you could recommend to buy solid 0.8mm wire if I wanted to be on the safe side and avoid screwfix?

No its not.
All the wires, 0.6, 0.8, I have had from the DIY sheds worked ok for me. 0.9 f/c ditto, 1.2 f/c I got from welding suppliers and I now buy all my wires from them. Try Weldequip, clic on top of page. I have found his stuff and service to be good.

Thanks. I called weldequip but unfortunately they were out of stock of the Lincoln ultramag wire I needed, but I found another supplier online.

Do you guys use flux cored wire? Would I see any real benefit in using it? I am using argoshield light gas.

very unlikely, gas sield is much nicer to weld with.

flux core is only anyuse on small mig is you don't want gas. bigger flux core on big machenes has some advantages for some jobs
