Folks, my first post ever, but bit of background to the hassle I'm having. I did an intro course at local college, passed, and used various lincolns and a migatronic for the basic welds (can't quite afford either welder just yet - ie can afford gas or 2nd hand welder, but not both). Anyway, failed badly trying to stick weld some square tubing, so looked on ebay and saw a "Messer 200" for £160, so I bought it. It came with a 3/4 full 50l bottle of argoshield, full 15kg spool, parweld torch and a 13A plug with a nail in it as a fuse (29A through a 13A plug will go!). So, I made it safe, but initial feed troubles - the roller turned, but the wire kept stop / starting. I replaced the liner (last 8 inches of the old one were corroded), tips and drive wheel. Even wiped the wire spool with petrol soaked rag as there was grot and oil spattered on it. Tried the old roller, different roller pressures, spool friction, no kinks in torch lead etc, but still the wire stops while drive roller spins.
Suspect last owner was a bit of a bodger (when alive...) given wrong plug plus nail in it (and the argon bottle has an oxygen regulator on it...). From other posts, seems the last thing to try is a different spool, but other than that, am at a total loss what else to try. Heck I even dismantled the whole drive, cleaned the cogs and put fresh lube in it - it's all in good condition. Hence and suggestions greatly appreciated
