Wire feed motor not running

Evening all,

Lincoln SP 170, was running fine then noticed the welder felt like it was chugging a bit and the wire feed wasn't as smooth as it used to be.

Did a few more welds then no wire feed

Done some investigation thinking it felt like a seized motor but the gearbox and motor are both turning freely. When you depress the trigger you get a click, like a relay cutting in but no movement from the motor.

Mechanics rather than electrics is my thing so probably will need to put it into the shop unless anyone has any bright ideas?

Pictures below show the workings, I noticed one of the components on the top next to the multi plug connectors looks kinda brown......

Can't tell from the wiring diagram what this is exactly so.

any thoughts?

I had the same trouble with that model long time ago. it was one of the wires soldered on to the motor had come off, looked like a poor original job, resoldered and it's been working great ever since, Hope yours is the same simple fix

Thanks Gordon. I did look at the wires and they were intact, although I know what you mean, bit of bare wire pushed through with a blob of solder!

I wonder if it isn't getting a full contact if the motor will stop running........

What voltage goes to the motor - any ideas?

The large brown thing is probably a resistor,though the angle is bad to see for sure.
The power to the motor will sometimes go through a large resistor.
You might see what the resistance is through the resistor.
Usually the motors will run from 12 v.
