Anyone got any idea's where I can get a 40mm ID round wire circlip from?
I've looked over my usual suppliers and they either don't have them or want me to buy a box of 500, which is a bit overkill 'cause I only need one
Can't you just use a cable tie else a piece of copper wire twisted shut at the ends? I'm guessing you're wanting originality over pure function? Nowt suitable on an old track rod, steering rod or small ball joint cover or the like?
You can't physically get in to twist something shut - the shaft it goes in has a shroud tight up around it. Old track rod/balljoint might be a good shout, probably have to be a commercial at that size though!
Perhaps, I thought about that but the circlip is pretty stiff compared to an o-ring - it doesn't sit in a groove like modern calipers but just relies on the friction from the clip on the boot keeping it there.
Another possible source would be an old washing machine. They have those butterfly style spring clips on hoses. You could easily snip the wings off if you can find one of suitable diameter.
Yeah, I've been looking but most of the ones the right size just come with o-rings these days, there's loads the right size in the states, but they only seem to come as complete caliper refurb kits.
