Hi all
I am hoping to carry out a full respray of my 1971 Tr6 over the next 6 months.I did a body off restoration on this car ten years ago, striped the body down to the metal and painted the car with Du Pont centari.
My plan is to strip the car, effectively use the top coat as a guide coat and sand it down with 400 grit, hopefully sorting out some of the defects in the existing finish.I would then fill or stopper any defect then use 800 grit ready for colour.
My concern if that I am in Scotland and I will not be in a position to spray a colour coat until the spring and higher temperatures. I would like to take the preparation as far as I can over the winter but how far can I reasonably go.There will be a few areas that will require me to go down to the metal, I was hoping that these areas could be coated in a epoxy primer to protect them until later.
I have been advised to use lechler MAC 5 1K topcoat to go on top of the Centari, any thought or alternative suggestion. The existing finish is very good it just my preparation before spraying 10 years ago was not great and the paint has sunk a little over the years.
Any advise would be greatly appreciated.
