windows 7 usb boot

this is doing my head in
i have a toughbook cf53, with a windows 7 oa key
i have the iso of the same version of windoze
i have had several attempts at making a bootable usb, to re-install
cant get it to work
my win 10 boot usb will boot the machine, but i am too tight to buy the key!
i want to put 7 on, and then hopefully upgrade to 10 for free
any suggestions for a foolproof usb boot

Also I had several iso downloads and some worked and some didn't. Worth trying a few

Ah. Missed upgrading to 10.

Tbh just use the windows 10 media creation tool and pay a few quid for a one time key

I have a few usb creation media tools

win7 usb tool
iso to usb
rufus

i use another to create a multi disk usb boot tool that really comes in handy when you have other systems

ive had rufus refuse on me and iso to usb, windows 7 version is the official version to do legit discs

You can still do a clean install of 10 with a win7 key. Will activate fine.

+1 for Rufus and this site has what look like good instructions. It's also handy for putting W11 on really old kit although it has to have a 64bit processor.
