How could it be bad? Windows 10 goes end of support this year so MS are offering a free upgrade to continue to receive feature and security updates for years to come.
Nobody is being forced to update, so this seems to be a very positive change of their approach.

But why? Windows 7 was ok from what I remember but not so awesome I want to make 10/11 look like it

I'm all for reusing parts, mine only get disposed of when they are broken or really past any use. I have a GPU rig I offload Photoshop workloads to. Yes it would be more efficient to just have a newer GPU in a pc, but this way I can do complex transforms from my laptop

Ive worked in IT for almost 30 years and large corporates can be very slow to change there IT equipment there will be a large number under pressure to spend millions either updating to make compatible with 11 or paying millions to keep 10 updated , they will have been putting pressure on microsoft for sure to change the goalposts . Probably over a round of golf followed by caviar on sat on the back of a large yacht but thats how it works , our CEO spends most of his time jetting round the world greasing the palms of various large corporates but thats the norm for companies with £6bn turnover and how he earns his £5m a year i guess

I have a dell latitude 5480 laptop, it has tried updating a couple of time but does not, cant download/install windows 11, I forget the text displayed in red. it just resets back to last I think, I did not expect this issue as its not a very old laptop..... its a few years old right enough.

Could be worth starting a new thread and seeing whether we can help? I'm typing this on a 2019 Dell XPS so I agree it should work.

over at the register its clear and confirmed that microsoft hasnt budged from its requirements at this moment in time

mine isnt and im running a 2gb ram memory and a 4gb ram memory system on it with no problems at all

the only issue i have is google changed to constant loading of a page and that gives the pc some issues instead of 12 pages per page that it was used too

ive also found the same issue with other sites the longer the page continues to load downwards it seriously causes issues

you have to remember with laptops by the time the uk get them they are 1-2 years old as they are released elsewhere first usually usa

you can also see if they have any issues with them before you buy them here in the uk

so in skotls case the laptop will be 2017-2018 based on the previous years technology at the time of building/making them for them to be sold
usa get them first then they are released in the uk as this is the normal case with most electrical goods the same as tvs are

Do you have any evidence of this ? the company i work for is an Enterprise partner with Dell , HP, Lenovo and many more so I have access to all the training and documentation , we support models for all across the world and receive training updates when new models are released i cant say that ive ever noticed anything being that far behind when its released here

We do worldwide rollouts of new kit and the UK gets the same stuff as the USA because believe me people would moan like hell if they knew other sites had 2 year newer kit !

I did work for a very large business and the windows 11 roll out was swift and from what I saw, effective.

Large parts of the business are highly regulated so they had reason for it to go well

Mostly now with Win11 its deployed remotely and usually goes well but they do have problems and usually they have to call 'offshore' support to get support

If there are problems its usually some piece of old software one guy in accounts uses that was set up by a bloke who left years ago and the key was written on the bottom of a keyboard that got binned

We got a new laptop, had to login and do some setup. They sorted the self service for those (me and my team) that needed slightly odd software

As the roll out progressed some people got older laptops that had been upgraded, I heard of more than one person getting a machine of worse spec/condition than their old one

That happens a lot for sites that I work at , especially when people have clearly been lying and claim the screen just broke was never dropped we will go out of our way to find the lowest spec replacement depending on how rude they are

As mentioned by a few others I have a similar experience. We have approx 16,000 windows laptops and PCs. We have a direct relationship with Dell and see their global road map before Joe Public, we are buying new kit that is available elsewhere across the globe

Downside, we have 2500 devices that are below the Win11 minimum requirements

Downside, we have 2500 devices that are below the Win11 minimum requirements

Out if interest, do you know whether that 2,500 will reduce with the recent requirements-relaxation accouncement?
