Ive signed my spare laptop up to the insider previews

My desktop with a xeon cpu is showing as incompatible, I think its due to not using UEFI boot so once an iso is available I may do a deep dive into the bios and try get it working

Why? Windows 8 was a free upgrade to Windows 7 and Windows 10 was a free upgrade from both 7 and 8 (all for a limited time). Microsoft don't actually want millions of people running ancient versions of operating systems, and Windows isn't a cash cow (Azure, Xbox and Office are).
So sometimes there is an extended lunch as long as you paid for the original lunch...

I agree on paying for programs but i want something in my hands that i can install and not something that is downloadable and they can turn off anytime they like

Weeeeelllllllll..... this is the way of the world now, Gaz. How many DVDs did you but from Blockbuster or HMV in the last six months, vs, how many programmes or films did you watch on Sky, Netflix or Amazon Prime?
We're generally moving to the rental / subscription model. The last time I physically touched a software product that I had "bought" (CD, paper licence, etc.) must be more than ten or fifteen years ago.

It's a seller and buyer negotiation. If the seller believed that the buyer demands a cardboard box with a CD and a cardboard licence key then that's what they would supply. But we as buyers are not making that demand, so the sellers are going digital, and they are going rental / subscription. The big upside of subscription is that you always get the shiny new version - that's what I do with Office, Azure, Davinci Resolve, Jetbrains, Affinity, etc. - I pay a known amount frequently, and I keep getting updates and new functionality.

Oddly enough, Windows is one of the few software products where there is not a subscription option. But free upgrades (for a limited period) make it pretty appealing, to me anyways.

dvds i bought used or imported them as cheaper than the uk and you got the full film instead of 3 different release

dont use sky or netflix or amazon or prime and i never have done I come from another side of it

last game i bought was tombraider and need for speed one problem only a digital download copy as the boxes never stated this fact the the dvd dosnt contain the full game i was able to get refunded the full amount on its return

and i havent bought a game since

before you ask i had both digital and dvd copys of a game and yes i bought the originals on pc and playstation so i have 2 copies not one

i will not buy a dvd case or printed card for 50.00 they can stuff it up somewhere litrally if others want to do thats there choice not mine but companys have every right to shut there servers down after 2 years quoting you dont own the game

I honestly have no idea what you're talking about. The original thread was about Windows 11 and you took it off into a debate about subscriptions.

I think I'll bow out of this rather than debate it with you. I genuinely have no clue what point you're trying to make, which isn't a situation that is unique to this thread.

Won't be putting it on a work or business machine yet
