Windows 10 won't sleep??

My PC is running Windows 10 and it's fully up to date. For the last couple of weeks it refuses to sleep ...when I press sleep it just re-starts. If I turn it off it stays off. I have tried all sorts of things - as suggested on google - and just updated every driver but still it won't sleep ...anyone had this and can point me to a fix?? Ta mucho Gerry

Could be something in a usb port.
My 3d mouse stopped windows sleeping. Just a thought.

That is so weird, I was look at this only a couple of days ago. I have never bothered with the sleep setting, but two days ago thought I would set it up rather than have the PC on full whack when I'm not using it. Every little helps and all ...
Set it up to go to sleep after 20 minutes of inactivity .... nothing. It just plain does not do it unless I specifically tell it to.

Like you I have searched and updated stuff, but it just refuses to sleep after a period of inactivity.

So not quite the same scenario, but I'd be interested in a solution too.

so youve checked the power config file

unpluged whats not needed on usb ports

changed the usb peripals

Power config checked ...will go through the USB ports see if anything is causing it ...thanks guys

make sure you open up everything within power config file

a change in there can and does stop the system going into sleep mode

i change the hard drive and monitor from going to sleep or lower it so it goes to sleep faster depending on the screen im using

It can be software as well, I have a particular web page that If I leave it as the active window then my PC won't sleep. If that one is off or minimised then it sleeps fine

I have also heard about some mice being a problem

Check the network port setting as well. There is wake-up option there.

Some applications, like streaming music, will stop a PC from sleeping.

Sometimes, if there is a pending update, the PC won't sleep. I have found that occasionally I have to manually check for updates and then install an optional general W10 update.

You can check which process is preventing your PC from sleeping and you can fix it or disable it.

Thanks ..I've tried Horlicks and a sleeping tablet but it's just not getting tired enough

OK I've done everything suggested above but it still goes to sleep for about 5 seconds and restarts ...it's as though something is re-awakening it ..??

I did read about going into DOS mode (remember that!!) but it says I haven't got permission to be able to 'see' what's going on.... T

Think I'll just switch the darn thing off ...it's got a lot of power hungry bits ..... 6 core cpu, water cooling, 32gb memory, powerful graphics, 4 hdd, etc. and with new energy prices probably worth just turning it off!!

Mine work fine for years, then after a W10 update it stopped and nothing that I could do would restore it. Then after the next W10 update it was back up and working - sleeping that is!

Not something daft like jogging the desk which moves the mouse and wakes the computer

Most of the normal problems stop the PC from going to sleep in the first place rather than it only sleeping for 5 seconds

I've tried most of the above but I'm steering clear of the BIOS as I have too much 'stuff' to risk losing it all with a non-booting PC !! I actually started building and selling PC's way back in the late 80's when they had 12mhz 286 cpu's and a 20 mb hard drive was both huge and expensive ...I also remember buying 8mb (not gb)of ram for £200 in 1987 I've disabled the mouse 'start up' but I suspect it's an update that's causing the problem ......so I'll put up for now and hope another update will cure it.
