Windows 10 again.....

Having decided I am eventually going to switch to windows 10 I have decided to install one on a test PC and see how things go.

There seems to be a number of versions Like Home, Pro, Pro N and Enterprise that I know off.

Whats the difference and is there any I should steer clear of. DO they all keep sending my details to somewhere or are any better to buy than others??

Pro allows you to join the computer to a corporate domain and have corporate policies applied. But Home allows you to connect an Azure Active Directory or Office 365 account to it, which does everything I need for my home network and connect to my own and my wife's work systems.

Or put it another way, you likely just need Home.

If you want Linux ability then you can use Windows Subsystem for Linux 2 ("WSL2") on all editions of Windows 10, including Home.

I thought they had stopped the free home versions??

Why do people want/need the other versions.

I have always used windows 7 Enterprise as a mate had a company that closed and he had 3 computers he sold but was never sure what I had extra or had and did not need as I am by no means a power user and it is real a gloryfied browser and a few additional programs as I have got older..lol

I use remote desktop but I use Team viewer.....dont know what Hyper ventilation is Hyper threading I do.. as for ubuntu I see it a lot and guess its some form of linuk but have not had time to read up on it...lol
I recently purchased a PC from a guy with windows 10 on and he gave me 3 keys but they are at home and I cant remember what version they are...he is a systems engineer and his company purchases them in bulk apparently.

I am not a computer buff by any means and at 94 years I am pretty lucky to be using a computer at all but I,ve done a lot with it over the years ie putting all my photo's on to slide shows , old photos from just after the war coming up lovely all my holidays etc.with Adobe Photoshop.
But for months and months now , every time windows 10, which they loaded onto my computer without my permission by the way , updates itself , again ,without permission, it mucks up other programmes, last two being the sound, none at all and my external hard drive is gone somewhere and I cannot find it .
I am now seriously thinking of getting an apple mac which all my family are using.
So!!!! I would say get some expert advice from some where be fore you change what you've got. Best of Luck. desmo11225

i blocked its updates desmo had enough of it doing so

i used stopupdates10

then went after the spying side of it

that program was interesting when it run it, how much stuff was being collected and being sent out from the windows 10 pc being used

I switched from w7 pro to W10 pro last week.

It seems the free upgrade can still be done by downloading W10 from Microsoft...I was surprised it worked but it did!!

Got another 2 w7 computers to upgrade ...hope it works for those too

one is guessing that you already need windows 7 or 8 installed on the computer you are upgrading though???

or is it download to a disk and install from that?

I went from 7 to 10....I think for that you need a valid windows 7.

Can always go straight to a fresh w10 but then you have to pay.

yeah I have seen lots of alternatives but it seems most are home and thats why I was asking about the differences. The laptop I am using for example has windows 7 Home premium and it seems I could get windows 10 home using that product key...but ........

As the same guys who know about low level down and dirty operating systems read here is it possible for Linux or a variation to see a drive that windows wont mount?

none that im aware of ukracer normally i use a program to back up that drive that wont mount

that includes freezing the hard drive to get info off of it

I wouldnt want to do it with over 500gb hard drives it took long enough with just an 80gb and didnt mean i could save all the files either

Hi, I'm glad I'm not the only one that my W10 has decided not to recognise my external hard drive and tells me it's malfunctioned.
