£49.01 for a piece 2450 by 474 x 18. Nearly fell off my trolley! Only other (naff) options are MDF or floorboards, joined. I only wanted Pine board, not priceless Teak hand sanded by virgins.

I can do that but it is a lot of faff. The original was in three pieces and the paint cracked along the joints. I might have to bite the bullet.

Bite hard , enjoy the result ..if a job's worth doing it's worth doing well especially in your own home.
The other way is to use a veneered HDF and put on a T shaped nosing The tang of the Tee being the bit that goes in the routed out slot in the front edge and side edges . After routing the slot out in the side edge glue in the complementing natural wood nosing so it looks the same width of the board or if you're lucky make one of the same wood & similar grain.
Wipe a bit of stain on them to bring both colours to a closer match , once they varnished you'll hardly notice them.

Don't pin the nosing's on , they loosen and look bloody awful after a couple of years because of the collected dust in the gaps.

To be honest if you think how long it took to grow the tree, to produce your one piece of wood, then fell the tree, then transport to a saw mill, then buy the machine capable of cutting to such a spec, 49 quid isnt actually that bad espescially if its hard wood, seasoned.

Now Id be tempted to go for the block pine on the previous page if your going to paint it, as its marginally cheaper, and less likley to warp when the heating goes on or the sun comes out.

That WAS for pine board. Having explored the options, I have sent the van down to go and get it. Otherwise the room will never get sorted out!

you should see how much hardwood board is if you think thats expensive

all my windowsill's are made of 3/4 redwood ply with redwood d mouldings on the face .then stained .its not noticeable how its been done

Sometimes you have to just do it or you spend hours trying to find a cheaper option, time that could be better spent.

I get that all the time, nagged to do something around the house and when I start it is either too noisy or dusty can't win sometimes.

Some progress today. Wall damage filled and trowelled smooth, cill primed and a surround made for the loft hatch. Drop of gloss and emulsion paint next week and we are ready for carpet I think.

You will live to rue the day you left the rad pipes below the height of the vacuum cleaner head . You'll never get the fluff from the edge of the carpet & you'll always be smacking the cleaner in to the pipes . Guess how I know .. I also have the added problem of not being able to get the dust & fluff off the top edge of the skirting in the bungalow I now live in,

Even in this fully modernised bungalow ( 10 yrs ago ) the new rad pipes were put a pipe clip above the skirting despite my saying I wanted a 150 mm gap between the floor & the bottom pipe … They've become fantastic dust traps , nigh impossible to keep clean or clean & rough up to repaint them . I might well box the corner in diagonally and add a false top & front of boxing to totally enclose the pipes & bung a false skirting on the front , but it will have to wait a couple of more years to effect it . As it means wrecking the carpet & glued down carpet grippers or cutting them off , getting rid of all the straggly fibres and putting new ones down with the new carpet & new underlay .

I boxed the pipe work in in my daughters bedroom it's worked out well . I would have done the rest of the bungalow but my left knee gave up the ghost . I had to wait seven years and had god knows how many cancellations till an intensive care bed became available for level high care became available ( I'm 80% disabled ) to get the complete knee replacement job done . Now I'm two & a half years on after the new knee I feel I am able to reattempt the boxing in again using a high spec nailer this time round not wall plugs & wood screws.

When I first moved here 15 yrs ago the bungalow was only 30 years old , someone had run micro bore piping down the middle of most large wall spaces , put it in capping , which they'd wall papered over , then over the years had roller painted over that paper in half a different colours .

Question for anyone who knows .. what sizes ( length , widths & thickneses ) can you get the pre painted green mdf shirting in ? 150 & 70 mm x 6 mtr length would be dandy .

15 and 18mm iirc.

4 5 and 6 inch depending on moulding.
Won't find bullnose bigger than 4 inch off the shelf.

Haven't seen 6m lengths since I got back to the UK. 3.6 seems to be common.
Sure you can find 6m lengths mind.
