but depending on what your doing you can throw a g clamp on the edge of a surface plate ,,, very quick and handy tooI agree it does seem sacrilege to drill them but on the other hand a siegmund table is 7 grand and not as strong as the 2 surface tables i gave £1500 each for and spent a day drilling out
The only thing I'd like would be 90 degree sides so they could be drilled aswell to bolt extensions on
I went for years using g clamps and carvers but once you've used a fixture table theres no comparisonbut depending on what your doing you can throw a g clamp on the edge of a surface plate ,,, very quick and handy too
swings and roundabouts ..
personally Id have the grinder out by now , sad it may be , but have to makes a hard master , and its going to be better than anything you can buy for the price .
all true ,, but as it is you have a good right angle and a surface to clamp to very fast ,,, and there is nothing to stop holes being drilled ,,, all im saying is that for a days bother you could save a grand ,,, I dont often make a grand a day anymore , so its not loosing a big table to work on , but gaining a table you can use.I went for years using g clamps and carvers but once you've used a fixture table theres no comparison
The clamping is only a small part of the benefits, the adjustable stops and squares etc are big time savers aswell
I agree thats why i drilled 2 out to make fixture tables it was other people saying dont drill them!all true ,, but as it is you have a good right angle and a surface to clamp to very fast ,,, and there is nothing to stop holes being drilled ,,, all im saying is that for a days bother you could save a grand ,,, I dont often make a grand a day anymore , so its not loosing a big table to work on , but gaining a table you can use.
