Winch not so Super

I have neglected my Superwinch EPi9 for the last few years, not seen much use and not been serviced!

Decided to check it out, and not working, so took it off the Landy and motor not working: an upgraded Bowmotor, so took it apart and cleaned up the brushes and commutator it now works fine:

So I thought I would just clean up the paintwork, when I found this:

The gearbox end cover is cracked through, I am guessing just from corrosion?

The gearbox seems ok, though I will strip it.

The winch is about 20 years old and no longer manufactured: am not sure if its worth trying to get the cover repaired (its alloy, so I cannot weld it)? Or time to buy a new winch?

Seems a shame to bin it if it's still working, & that old.

Send it up and I and I will give it a go. If it is too mucky for Tig the Mig should manage.

really kind offer, though the more I look, the worse it is and is a close fit to the gearbox. Going by the internal webs to the inside section I am guessing there must be some load going through it.

JB weld the cracks, coat of paint. It’ll keep you going till a replacement is found

thats one of those life long temporary repairs

Get a Tirfor. Bomb proof and work from any direction. Less weight over the front axle as well. Bloody hard work of course but unless you need a winch all the time then a Tirfor is the best for self recovery. My 110 V8 had a pto driven capstan winch - that was VERY handy

pretty sure they're a Comeup DV9

maybe contact goodwinch because i believe their winches are a version of, or just buy a TDS

kingone is who i was thinking off, pretty sure they make a lot of winches that get rebranded.

Belzona if any one can lend you some or JB weld should fix this
Winches should be kept dry and relubricated on a regular basis several times a year
Very few people bother
Its years since I have done any but you may find a chinese clone with the exact same casing ask Winch Systems.
