WiFi thermostat valves.

As i need to empty the water on the Boiler and water system for the closed period in winter. It makes sense to fit new wiFi valves and a room thermostat to cover all bases for next season.
We never know when we are going for certain so it would be nice to have a WiFi room thermostat to get the place room whilst we were on the way and WiFi valves for specific room control whilst there.

For example whilst there in the day the only rooms needing heat are the main cabin and toilet.
At night just one bedroom or two depending if grandkids were with us.

I seem to remember that if I have 6 radiators I can only have 5 that can autoclose.

I do have two radiators in the main cabin area. One large one and a small one in the hall .



I think this is the type of valve I need unless some one can reccomend a cheaper system.

And this is the small rad in the hall way that I think would be perfect without wifivalves.

This is in a caravan. And my wife really struggles with the cold due to stroke and warfarin so being able to warm it up in advance would be really useful.


Also I don't have a thermostat fitted currently. So I do need to buy at least that

Honestly, no

Id use normal TRVs and just adjust until you are happy with the temps, to fire the boiler in advance get Nest or Hive or even just a time clock

Time clock is no good as we never know when or what time we are going there.

Then you need some sort of smart stat, I see what you are trying to do with the WiFi trvs bur save yourself the hassle, it won't do what you want

With WiFi radiator valves the batteries will inevitably go flat when the weather is at its coldest and leave you without heating.

A smart thermostat is a good idea, I always recommend using one that is mains powered and doesn't rely on batteries. Personally I prefer the Nest.

I might not have been clear.

Main need is

1. A room thermostat. It's not got one.
2. Remote control for boiler. (We have hive at home) but when I fitted it I already had a room stat.
3. The wifitrv's are for my wife (or me,) to stop heating the bedrooms and shower during the day. (When there)
4 As we have no Trv's just manuals fitted I thought I would ask best way first that with fit.

Honestly, especially in a caravan id just save my money and fit std trvs, set them on 2 or 3 in the bedrooms

fit standared trv valves

draining system means nothing as your boiler is still full of water and will burst the heater coil seen it so many times

your better off fitting a frost stat or use thermostat to control cold temps but the boiler should have one anyway

It sounds like they pressurise the system to drain down fully.

But it has to be drained as it's all closed down for a month. Gas and water all turned off to the whole site.
For planning reasons apparently.

That was my original plan. But thought I would ask about WiFi valves first. No point in buying incompatible gear.If I chose to add later.

I hate most wireless stuff, you just know its going to fail at the most inconvenient time, standard TRVs work well and last for years if you get good ones, we have a wireless stat installed with the new boiler 4 years ago and its only had one battery but even though its only 15 feet and 2 walls away from the boiler it does loose connection sometimes which is irritating

What is the model and brand of the wireless stat. I am intruigued.
I won't be using Hive for that reason. It needs a constant internet. I don't have that in the van.
I intend to use a remotely controlled phone that I can call to wake.
