Why you should keep lubricant changes to schedule

An old Medding's scroll saw I'm doing up at the moment. This is what happens when some numpty doesn't replace the lubricant as oft as they should:

About the bottom inch of the cylinder consisted entirely of that stuff. The drain plug was blocked solid, and I had to scoop the stuff out. Roughly the consistency of jelly.

At least it wasn't a BMW 328i which went 60,000 miles without an oil change.

We don't get that problem at work, the coolant pump hasn't worked for 7 years!

I use the bandsaw to cut wood all the time! we don't use coolent though just the sqirty stuff in a tin when we feel like it

A better one is cutting metal on a wood bandsaw. They tend to catch fire. I did warn him. The gaffer wasn't a forgiving man

My bandsaw is a wood-bothering device that looks like Noah would have used for cutting the main frames on the Ark. I fitted a metal-frightening blade and it rips through 12mm aluminium like Freddie Kruger unwrapping his foil-wrapped sarnies. It has a 4-step drive pulley, the top speed of which sees the blade travelling at 3km a minute!
I bought it via Ebay from a signmakers in Leicester; they got it 2nd-hand when they set-up the company in 1970. Safety devices? Watch your fingers

I have a 1955 bandsaw, probably a cheapy, it is great on ali with it's wood blades, came with a load of them and they hack through an inch of ali ok.
Tried a 24tpi eclipse hss blade, but 2,800 feet a min is a tad fast;-)
