Why would anybody do this to their bike?

I bought a DR350 a few weeks ago. Loving it, great offroad and keeps up on the road.
it had a hideous tank protector fitted when it arrived. Today I found it why it was on there. I came to fit a larger enduro tank to give a decent range.

I cant imagine what was in the guys mind as he started and progressed with this hideous mess.
Beyond me.

Bike is looking handsome now. Next up, bar risers, hand guards and I may make a small rack.
Range is up from about 60 miles at a stretch to 200+

Wow I had one of those tanks on my DR350 when I was 19! Mind it goes yellow quickly. Cutting compound fixes it.

Hmm, looks like the labels you get on courier parcels, but the bike looks a bit hefty for door-to-door deliveries... possible though? People do do this, you see it on control panels quite a bit with zillions of labels from all the fruit they've eaten

You're missing the point. It's art dummies. The reason it's under a cover is that it's a new movement called Laminar Art. You make something hideous, you lack all talent, then you hide it under the wallpaper. Then that Saatchi fella pays fortune for it....
