Hi all,
i have a transit that is starting to rust, i am in the process of cleaning and brushing ready for waxoyling and getting on top of any little problems before they become big ones. i had a bloke round and for 120 quid he did a few patches and sorted my floor out, he had a dinky little kemppi welder that made the right "frying pan" noise and he was freestyling one handed whilst telling me all his medical problems. That annoyed an avid diy-er like me.
I have a small amount of welding experience, i say welding, i can stick 2 pieces of metal together using a welder but would you call it welding? we shall see. i learnt using a synmig 130 with a euro torch and had great sucess. i bought a clarke 135 which used the hobby bottles but i never got the same quality of welds, i sold that years ago very stupidly. so, finally to the point i am after a welder mainly for bodywork, so from 1.2 to 3 mm steel. if the situation arises the occasional thicker stuff would be handy but not necessary. i have looked at the clarke 90 as it goes down to 25a. i am after something half decent that will do the job. NO GASLESS, not interested. if i have to get a rent free bottle or somehow get a pub gas set up fine, extras aside 300 for the actual welder is the max i can go. i dont know enough to go second hand, i will buy the most citrusy lemon on the market. but something that will make welding thinner steel as effectively (simply) as possible is what i am after. i am really open to sugesstions.
over to you fellas, thanks in advance.
