Why i hate other people welding my work :-(

Well this morning i had a bit of a shock it was so bad that i had to take pictures, because i just couldn't believe a Welder would simply do poop like that and then leave it.

I'm making a Lighting Gantry out of 100 x 100 x 10 RSA and you can imagine its pretty large and the welds have to be a decent fillet with good penatration, been doing fine myself until yesterday when they told me that a guy on night shift will finish off what i didn't manage to do during the day.

Well take a peek and tell me if this is bog standard welding or worst

You wouldn't believe how ANGRY i got this morning at 7am. I spent the next 2.5 hours grinding out every weld that bloke did and re doing it.

Surely you can see its a load of Poop, why do it?? and he's a welder too, or at least he thinks he is.

The annoying thing is, in my experience, that they are quite able to do a satisfactory weld, but can't be bothered to do a proper job.

Looks like he's had the power too high on the first few pics and been filling a big gap. Too lazy to turn the set down?

looks awful! nothing worse than starting a job and having someone else finish it, regardless of how the finished article comes out!

I'll freely admit that I can't weld for toffee, but looking at those photo's, I can quite well imagine how irate you were. If you honestly manage to resist giving that chap a piece of your mind, you're a saint.

Maybe he's a night class qualified bodger ? You know do a 3 month course and you mysteriously become a welder. I could do better then that in the first 6 months of my apprenticeship.

Aww, man that is just so wrong, in every way, no edge grind prep, nowt. That man should be as far removed from any kind of heat based joining of any kind , shame he screwed up your meticulous work, did he get payed for that night shift ? I hope some one brought his expert welding to the attention of the management.

Yes i did tell the boss as i don't want anyone to assume its my work, Its just lazyness

Looks like the wire has stuck / misfed in places and hes carried on rather than stopping and sorting it.

Quick update, there's more, I'm now going to refuse to do any more work that this guy has touched.

Unbelievable, how he managed to get the job?

In 1981 I obtained a welding certifcate as a hobby. The course (12 months night school) was run as a local company (JCB) required such a certificate to do any work for them.
Neighbour is welder at JCB and says now people (mainly EU workers rather than UK residents) just claim they are welders without any qualifications. He says often they are complete novices and are taught "on the job" with it being his job to sort out their mistakes later down the production line.
