I only do prep work when decorating our bungalow now.
I can still just about do 4 - 5 hours a day (any more and I'm stuffed for the next couple of days).
The main problem is the original plastering, a lot of it is loose - not to the touch, but to the paper scraper - the right hand wall had been replastered at some stage 2 coat white plaster 1 - 2mm thick and had wall paper on top. Taking off the wall paper blew some of the top coat of plaster and the rest came off with a paper scraper, base coat with a light steam came off in pieces the size of 2 dinner plates. All except the right hand 1/3rd of the wall which was solid and needed hammer and cold chisel - hard going.
The left hand wall is original 30 year old 1mm plaster over 12mm cement render. From the side door to the corner by the internal door, took 45mins to skirting board level and yes that included levering off the coving.
And the window wall was loose on the left hand corner the rest will be hammer and chisel.
At least I have a good plasterer and he's in on Monday to tell me what needs to be done before he comes and does the plastering.
After that it's new skirting and the let the painter loose.
If all the walls were like the left hand wall it would be easy.
This is supposed to be my main work in the house, but as can be seen in Mondeo Woes and post# 2003 in Stuff you have fixed today I've got other things I'm trying to do, oh and I'll post a horror picture in the electrics as well.
Left hand wall, I'm in the doorway.
Right hand wall
window wall.
