Why do we never see the welder?

I like those but im told im sad and its boring!

I can only recall that they had to select the wire carefully.

The reaction you get for being guilty of watching that is why we don't have more of it and why the program makers pile on more celeb nonsense

Perhaps they actually were veneer guages and he made a mucking fuddle of it all .

The thing about TV is that it is always aimed at the lowest common denominator which sadly tends to be an unthinking audience .

The commercial channels go for the laziest common denominator .. they are too lazy to think and too lazy to change channels even with the remote in arms reach.
Give them some glitz 'n' titz and they will soak up every advert slot that occurs every seven minutes for a length of four minutes .

A good friend told me years ago to be careful what you put in your head or somebody else will be.

I have to add that I think the reason they dont show extended welding shots is... its bloody boring!
Ive got one of the ron covell tig welding videos, and while it shows stuff like walking the cup etc which the first time you watch it with a real interest in replicating it is hugely useful, even then its a bit boring but your interested in it.

Watching it twice is like watching paint dry. Maybe its just ron's lack of charisma but...

Now that is something you don't hear everyday !!!

Actually , just thinking about Tank Overhaul , you do see quite a bit of proper welding on there !! My fave bit is when that one team weld two halves of a Sherman together !! That was impressive.

I saw that last week and thought it odd that they used mild steel wire to make the tacks on it due to the high stress of rotating it in the jig. This was after talking about the tank being made out of cast iron.

It was one hell of a rotiserie though!

He then proceded to talk about how he was studying the metalurgy of the metal to chose what wire to use but did not divulge this. He only talked about how pure the metal was and that the wire would cut through it like a knife.

Did notice that he had two migatronics sitting so he must have been expecting to hit the thermal cut out at some point.

After the job was done he said that he had used 30kg of wire!

Pah!! I bet Snowy or Tino would use that any day
