Why do I have TWO oil lights on the car dash?

Toyota diesel turbo.
When I turn the ignition on, all the usual lights appear on the dash as expected. Of these lights, there are two oil lights - an amber coloured light that goes out (after maybe 3 seconds) but before I have started the engine. There is of course the red oil pressure warning light that goes out once the engine has been started, as expected.

What is the purpose of the amber oil light?

Maybe one is oil level and other is pressure, I'm sure it will be in the handbook

Its oil level. The wavy line indicates level and the can oil. Oil temp is usually a gauge an not a light and has awee thermometer with the oil can in the icon.

Well it was definitely oil level in my Citroen BX's and I am sure the same in a Subaru but maybe Toyota are different?

Hi, On most makes including Toyota it's oil level. However on a Focus it's oil temperature and on a Vauxhall it's oil pressure. Of course you could always RTFM.

Actually thinking about it maybe the BX had a needle gauge. I can remember it would only work when you initially switched on the ignition but then again I had a few BXs so maybe there were a few different versions of it.
My favourite BX dash was the first BX I had, drum speedo and indicators and lights were rocker switches which were extensions of the dash which protruded either side of the wheel, the quirkiness of the Citroens became a thing of the past sadly.

Assuming it is for the oil level, would such a warning light illuminate in respect of a level that has been over filled, or just a low level?

Hi, Usually it indicates low level but it some cases (like Sprinters) it will show with over fill.

What is a sprinter Colin, in the context of cars?

The car is a manual box 123hotchef

Mercedes Benz Sprinter. They have a particular process to refill with oil and if not adhered to can result in incorrect oil level.
