Sit down & work out how much it costs to employ one person with all the overheads then work out how much you have to sell to make the profit to pay them Scary.
Tot up hours worked including doing books ETC if self employed & then hourly rate, a large No. would be better off financially, being employed.

Drifting a bit, I was quite surprised to find that the local Renault main agent does not keep a spares stock. All stuff is delivered daily from a central wharehouse.
Not that I buy much at their eyewatering prices. Plenty of factors that do stock bits and the web.
the wholsalers are the same .stock sat on a shelf for months or years is dead money so just hand the gear over as u need it and get a month free credit to pay for itMattF; said:Most dealers seem to only keep frequently used stock for their service dept. in.
